Social Media is on the decline. Not just any one site but all of it. The entire idea. Traffic everywhere is down. What we once saw as a way to stay connected to our friends became a tool to be used against us. By advertisers after our attention, by politicians pushing their propaganda. Any passing… Continue reading The End of Social Media

The Crowd 317: Again & Again
Hi Crowd! Funny thing I just did in the year 2026 of the common era, I set up my Twitter account. As a reminder twttr became Twitter which then became X, and apparently somewhere in there the trademark for “Twitter” has been challenged and a new company called Operation Bluebird have (re)launched Twitter at dotnow… Continue reading The Crowd 317: Again & Again
The Crowd: Where to find me [273]
Last month landing in Munich on a stopover from Paris the pilot made an announcement as we were taxing to the gate. He said if we looked out the window we’d see several emergency vehicles heading towards the plane, that there was nothing to worry about but one of the passengers was having a medical… Continue reading The Crowd: Where to find me [273]
The Crowd 318: Sloppy Seconds
Hi Crowd! Rabbit rabbit. As a quick follow up to the last post, Twitter Dot Now is already dead or down or on vacation or dead. For the few hours it was up it was really fun and a bunch of people jumped in and it seemed like old times, then it started crashing and… Continue reading The Crowd 318: Sloppy Seconds
The Crowd is Making Some Lists [285]
Hi Crowd! As I sit here in my advanced age thinking back on my youth I imagine a time when I could recall anything at the drop of a hat and quickly rattle off books/movies/albums I’d enjoyed over the last year without hesitation. Those days are long gone and unless I’ve written it on my… Continue reading The Crowd is Making Some Lists [285]
The Crowd Is Curious and Shows Up [251]
Hi Crowd! Before you read any further go wish my old friend Shepard Fairey a Happy Birthday today. You can do it on his wonderful Instagram post where he talks about how this is also the anniversary of the day he got his first real skateboard and how that changed his life. Apple Vision Pro… Continue reading The Crowd Is Curious and Shows Up [251]
The Crowd: Station Identification [260]
Hi Crowd! (Me, Black Metal Alley, Bergen, Norway, 2024) On this 260th issue of The Crowd I thought I’d take a moment to remind/reiterate who I am, which might also remind/reiterate why you, dear reader, are here as well as think a little about where this goes next. I’m Sean. Writer. Artist. Musician. Activist. Advisor.… Continue reading The Crowd: Station Identification [260]
The Crowd: It’s All Water Under The Bridge [270]
Hi Crowd! [Insert obligatory “I haven’t written to you since last year” joke followed by copious laughter] The most persistent new years eve memory I have pegs back to perhaps ’94 in Gainesville, we’d all just gotten home from some new years eve show happening at the Hardback with which bands I’ve forgotten but certainly… Continue reading The Crowd: It’s All Water Under The Bridge [270]
The Crowd Is All Over The Place [247]
Hi there. It’s been absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting to watch what is happening in the world, and to watch everyone so quickly embrace the insistence and expectation that everyone else will say specifically worded things or not say specifically worded things (and mostly from the comfort and safety of their own homes) while being afraid… Continue reading The Crowd Is All Over The Place [247]
The Crowd: The Socials [268]
Hi Crowd! A little more than a year ago I wrote about the end of social media. I think a lot of what I wrote there holds true and is more obvious from this perspective, especially if you consider the trajectory X/witter is on. Regardless of how you personally feel about Musk or any of… Continue reading The Crowd: The Socials [268]
The Crowd Has Nice Threads [241]
Oh boy. You knew I I was going to have something to say about all this didn’t you? At the end of last year I wrote about decentralizing social media and started to pick at a little bit of where this all came from, what got us to this point, and about the deterioration of… Continue reading The Crowd Has Nice Threads [241]
Checking in Post-X
At the beginning of the year I noted that I’d been on Twitter (now X) for 20 years, and given the cesspool the site has become that was probably enough. I made a post there saying my account was no longer being monitored and logged out / deleted the app off my devices. I made… Continue reading Checking in Post-X
