Hi Crowd!
My favorite thing of the moment is that apparently the creepy photos of people praying around Trump has become a meme in China and companies are staging their own “pray around the leader” photos. I mean, these photos were already being heavily meme’d but there’s something about this new international twist which makes them hilarious in entirely new ways.

Coming in at a close second is Sweep The Strait, a version of minesweeper someone made referencing, well, you get it. It’s pretty hard! I’ve played it a few times and never even gotten close to 100. That’s some aggressive mining. Here in Canada they are sounding the alarms about devices being checked more and more often when crossing into the US, so if you are not in the US and planning to visit soon probably a good idea to not have memes about Trump prayer groups or mines in the Strait of Hormuz on your phone. Sorry about that.
My least favorite thing at the moment, and I do mean moment because there’s a lot of least favorite things right now, is Geospy, which can find the location of basically any photo taken in public in a few seconds. It was only a matter of time before that happened, but that doesn’t make it any less uncomfortable to live with. Most of you probably know this already but current best practices are if you are going to post photos of a place you are at online, “latergram” them by posting a few days later rather than the “I’m here now, come find me” pics we all used to take 20 years ago without thinking twice about it. Same goes for known places you visit frequently, mention you were there, not that you are there.
I built a thing this weekend because I had a problem I was trying to solve and as I was building it I thought maybe other people have the same problem. It’s not public ready yet, but I’d love to get a few more eyes on it over the coming days to get some feedback and help refine it before I do let the public know about it. Basically this is for people who subscribe to a bunch of email newsletters (like this) and if, like me, can’t keep up with all the ones they get so they inevitably just skip all of them. It’s kind of a thing to help manage that. So beta testing is more of a “adjust some stuff on your end and live with it for a few days and let me know how it feels” and less of a “look at the site for a few minutes” kind of thing. If that feels like something you’d be up for, reply back and I’ll send you a link for it. In fact you are all kind of unwittingly participating already because I needed one of my own letters to hit the server to test something. So thanks!
More soon..
