PHOTOBOOK. SURPRISE ATTACK PRESS. 2017
A chronicle of commuting in the Shibuya district of Tokyo over a decade between 2007-2016.
This book began as a kickstarter campaign to produce a limited edition hardcover, the softcover is still in print and many of the photos from are available in small editions as prints or NFTs.
Before moving to Japan in 2017 I was commuting from Los Angeles almost every other month for Safecast. I always carry a camera with me, and most of these photos were taken somewhere between my office and whatever hotel I happened to be staying at. I was just taking them for myself and posting them on my blog from time to time, until eventually friends started harassing me to put them all together into a book. I said fine, but you have to put your money where your mouth is if you want it to happen and ~160 people chipped in to make it real. – s
