In blockchain lingo, a token is considered to be “burned” when it’s transferred to a inaccessible address. There’s many reasons someone might want to do this for various types of tokens, but with collectables if and when it happens it’s usually (not always) an accident. Burned Punks are CryptoPunks that have been burned, for one reason or another. While the end result is obvious, what led to that is easily forgotten. I thought these stories were worth documenting, and compiled them for burnedpunks.com.
Similarly, when a Museum acquires a CryptoPunk for their permanent collection it’s a big deal and one worth recognizing. I wanted to have an easier way to see what punks where in what museums, how they got there and any related interesting stories. I doubt I’m the only one, so to that end I built museumpunks.com.
I’ve written a lot about CryptoPunks outside of these sites, including two books CRYPTOPUNKS: FREE TO CLAIM and PUNKS: NOT DED.
