Robopunks 2048 (2022)

November 2022

When I started thinking about making a CryptoPunks derivative collection I was determined to make something that felt like a contribution to the ecosystem, not just an extractive play on momentary attention. I wanted to make something that felt like it fit in that world, and also that people could enjoy even if they didn’t know about CryptoPunks. At some point in 2022 I realized with all the existing derivative collections, no one had made a good robot punk series. Or even a bad one for that matter, which I felt was a crime. I sent out to remedy this immediately. I spent weeks studying punks and the traits and creating my own robo-versions that I hoped were complimentary. I made some references to famous movie robots, had some rusted (zombie) bots in the mix and even hid in a few Kaiju (aliens).

I didn’t think there needed to be 10k of these, but definitely knew a few hundred wasn’t enough. I did some math, and 2028 it was. These were far more successful than I anticipated, and in hindsight I should have done 10k.
